Movie Review - 'Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty' is a nice weekend treat

Holiday (2014) Movie Review, Holiday Movie Box Office Collection, Holiday Akshay Kumar Movie Reviews

Holiday (2014) is a Bollywood Action thriller starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in lead roles. The movie was released worldwide on 6th June 2014. Akshay Kumar starrer has a decent opening at Box office. As per the response from audience as well as from the critics, the Holiday movie is expected to be a Hit.

Movie Title - Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty
Release: June 6, 2014
Cast- Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha
Director- A. R. Murugadoss
IMDB rating- 8.5/10

Summary: Holiday movie is a story of a soldier, who when being on a Holiday, pays his duty towards his nation. He, while on a Holiday, gathers his men to hunt down a terrorist, destroy a terrorist gang and deactivate the sleeper cells under its command. Holiday is said to be a remake of Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal starrer Thuppakki (2014) movie.

Holiday movie story features Akshay Kumar as Lt. Virat Bakshi, who is working for Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) under his senior Govinda. Virat is in love with Sonakshi Sinha, who played the role of a Boxing Champion. While on a vacation in his hometown Bombay, Virat is familiarized with a terrorist cell running in his city. He then gathers his men and plans to hunt down and stop the terrorists from doing what they are meant to do.

Movie Review: As I mentioned in the title, Holiday is a decent treat for the fans of Akki (Akshay Kumar) and Sona (Sonkshi). Holiday movie story is inspired from a already hit South Indian movie and is no doubt, very interesting. Akshay, as always gives his best in his role as Lt. Virat. As a lead actor in the movie, he delivers what he was meant to deliver. Sonakshi is as beautiful and talented as always. She plays the role of a multi-talented sportsperson, which she indeed is.

The villain is played by 'Freddy Daruwala' who justifies enough with his role. Though he has not got the moves as of 'Vidhyut Jamwal' from the original movie, but he still fits enough with his role in Holiday movie. The movie delivers what you can expect from a classic Bollywood flick, full of action, romance and thrill. Watch the movie to give you weekend an extra dose of Entertainment.

Box Office Collection: Akshay Kumar starrer Holiday registered a decent opening at Box office with around 80-90% occupancy on its first day of release in India. The movies is expected to mint over 40-50 crores overall in its first weekend.

My rating: 3.5/5

Movie Review: X-Men Days of Future Past is Beyond Expectation

X-Men Days of Future Past (2014) Movie Review, X-Men Days of Future Past Box Office Collection, X-Men Days of Future Past First day Collection

X-Men Days of Future Past released this Friday 23 May, 2014 is one of the biggest releases this day. The movie had already become famous even before its release. IMDB will not give a rating of 9+ to any movie, there should be something very special and there is. This X-Men series movie is the best one in the series till date. With enhanced technology, action and Sci-Fi, movies delivers what it promises to deliver.

Movie Title- X-Men Days of Future Past
Release: May 23, 2014
Cast- Hugh Jackman, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Jennifer Lawrence
Director- Bryan Singer
IMDB rating- 9/10

Movie Summary: Movie starts in a world that is almost destroyed by machines called Sentinels. Not only Mutants, but the entire human race is on the risk of being ended unless some superhero comes forward to save the prestigious New York city. Then, enters our hero, The Wolverine/Logan (Hugh Jackman).

Logan has to go back in time (in 1973) to change events that took place on a specific day involving young Raven/Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and Professor X (James McAvoy). This is where past meets the present. The villain here is played by Peter Dinklage who is behind the concept of Sentinels.

Review: X-Men Days of Future Past is no doubt the best movie in the X-Men series, at least that's why I think. The movie keeps you bound from the very beginning and till the end. Packed with many big names, the movie gives you what you can expect from it, Entertainment and Action. Hugh Jackman is as always awesome and perfect in his role with some catchy scenes. Lawrence also seems doing justice with her role as Mystique. While Stewart and McKellen have very short appearance in the movies, their younger versions McAvoy and Fassbender play their parts perfectly. The movies seems perfect, but it might take some effort for audience to digest watching the so-in-control Professor X as an alcoholic.

The movie as expected, is full of action. The best scene was Magneto's jail break sequence, which you will have to watch yourself to feel the action. Other action scenes were also good and catching.

Overall, the movie is nice and worth watching. So, grab your tickets and go watch it.

Box Office Collection: X-Men Days of Future Past is set to collect around $53.1 million on its very first day of release. The movie is expected to cross $150 million mark in the first weekend of its release.

My Rating: 8/10

2 States Movie vs. 2 States Novel

2 States movie, which was released on April 17, 2014, has already become a hit. The movie recently entered the reputed 100 crore club in Bollywood. 2 States is based on the bestselling novel with the same title by Author ‘Chetan  Bhagat’. While adapting a novel into a movie, filmmakers tend to avoid some scenes or short stories or just change a thing. Here, we talk about the scenes that were different in ‘2 States’ movie than that in the novel.

2 States: Movie vs. Novel

I won’t say that the ‘2 States’ movie is far different from the novel as the basic plot and story is the same, but the negative thing about a movie is that it is limited and sometimes filmmakers may have to remove some scenes in order to keep the movie in its limits. This is what was done with the story of ‘2 States’

College part: The first thing I noticed in the movie that the college part and the initial phase of the love story were minimized like director was trying to reach the family part very soon. There were some intimate and touching moments in the novel that you wouldn’t want to miss, but won’t find in the movie.

Love Moments: Those special moments where love grew up between Krish and Ananya, were catching and actually special. Those little fights, love, lunch, dinner, etc, but I can understand that you cannot include these little things in a movie as there are certain boundaries of time.

Cast: Alia Bhatt did a good job as Ananya, but she failed to portrait herself as a “madrasan” while Arjun Kapoor was just ok in his role of Krish. Frankly, Arjun kapoor doesn’t look like a very romantic guy and has already built an image of Rowdy of Aurangzeb and Gunday.  Still, he tried his best. Rest film cast was just suitable for their roles.

Overall, I would say that the ‘2 States’ was a good attempt to adapt the novel. I honestly loved that novel and I loved the movie too, but it was still nothing as compare to the novel. But, it is always a nice thing to watch a story playing in a movie rather than reading it.

Movie Review: Godzilla (2014)

Godzilla, one of the two Hollywod movies released this Friday 16th May 2014, is already a hit. Not only in the US, but in other parts of World, the movie is getting good response. Just to remind you, this Godzilla is not a sequel of its previous version from 1998 and the new one is far better than the previous one.

Movie Title: Godzilla
Release: May 8, 2014 (US) and May 16 (Rest of world)
Director: Gareth Edwards
Cast: Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston
IMDB Rating: 8.0/10

Godzilla Movie Summary: Talking about the story of the movie Godzilla, it is somewhat inspired by the first version of Godzilla from 1998, but at the same place, the movie is quite different. The story starts with Joe Brody (Bryan Cranston), who is an engineer with a nuclear plant in Japan in 1999. He feels something fishing going on underground, but is being mistaken for seismic movements until an earthquake hits and gupls down Joe's plant along with her wife Sandra.

15 years later, the story starts back when Ford Brody (Aaron Taylor-Johnson), Joe's son who is a bomb technician in US army, has to go to Japan to get his dad released who was caught tresspassing into the nuclear plant in order to find answers to his questions. That is when, actual story starts. The introduction of an unexpected creature is what that bring action in the movie. Then, there is another one who is probably a good one. A good monster and a bad one. The movie also has a message for those who mind it. Watch the movie for the rest story.

My Review: Well, in one sentence, this Godzilla movie is worth watching, better than its 1998 version. When you go watch this one, do not already create an image of the monster, then you will probably enjoy even more. The movie is full of action and somewhat of tension. If you enjoy a new subject and want to watch something different from regular superhero-villain movies, this one is for you. Being a movie lover, I do not really judge the good-bad of a movie before watching it.

In the scale of 10, I would give this one a 7 rating. Director Gareth Edwards did a nice job with the camera capturing the best shots ever. Acting part was also quite good from all leading and supporting actors. The movie is overall good and worth watching.

Movie Review: Ek Tha Tiger

Direction:  Kabir Khan
Release Date: 15th August 2012
Cast: Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif

Ek Tha TigerStory: There is not much in the name of story in the movie. The movie begins with Salman khan on a mission and his action scenes that is the only thing in the movie worth watching. Salman(Tiger) is an agent and works for RAW(India). On a mission in Dublin, he meets Katrina(Zoya) and falls in love with her. Later on, he comes to know that Katrina is also an agent and works for ISI(Pakistan) and so she is an enemy and it is not right to fall in love with her. He returns back to India. But then he realizes that he has fallen in love with Zoya and he wants her in his life. So they again meet on a mission in Istanbul and this time they plan to run away from their respective organizations to be together. After that they have to fight with their own people in order to be with each other.

Review: Movie is just a onetime watch. Since it is holiday today, most of the shows were houseful. The movie is good, not bad actually. Though there is not a great story script but still the action scenes are more than enough excuse to watch the movie at least once. Not only Salman, but Katrina has also given some good stunt scenes. Salman is good as usual and Katrina is also not bad. Songs as I have already told are good. Overall, movie is good, not boring, watchable, and a good entertainment for your holiday. So, ENJOY…
